Category:Diagrams of cyclist dismount signs

[edit]

I added in a diagram category for cyclist dismount signs, so you don't have to worry about it. So whenever this category gets deleted, just re-add it in you like. VenderofSignSprees (talk) 19:35, 8 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Irish combination signs

[edit]

Hi there. Not to be terribly rude, but your dimensions for the supplementary plates in relation to the warning diamond for files such as File:IE road sign W-170+P-069.svg and File:IE road sign W-134+P-066.svg are incorrect. The working drawings should include the correct dimensions. Fry1989 eh? 14:27, 12 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Fry. Indeed I did think that they were much too large. However no working drawings for the plates exist, and I was going by the only 2-line plates there are (P-010 and P-080, though these are for regulatory signs). What I hadn't noticed is that the x-height differs for plates. For these two signs I have used an x-height of 75, going by x-heights on other plates I believe 62.5 is suitable but I find 50 much too small. Perhaps you could experiment yourself before I make any changes to be sure. EthanL13 (talk) 16:48, 12 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Just so you know: I've followed through on all the deletions, redirects and restoration of history. This took about an hour. If possible, in the future, if you are planning ultimately to create SVGs and would want to get rid of the PNGs, you might skip the PNGs.

Also, I noticed that a lot of "other versions" info you had in the PNGs did not end up on your SVGs. For example, have a look at https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:IE_TSM_Ch_4_Fig_4.2.11_c.png&oldid=828700459 vs. File:IE Entering a Gaeltacht Area Sign (with name, blue).svg. You might want to transfer that information to the SVG file pages. - Jmabel ! talk 03:06, 11 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Jmabel Thanks a lot, it is very much appreciated. However, as you may or may not have seen, the PNGs were uploaded some time before the SVGs, due to me not being familiar with Inkscape at the time.
As for the other versions information, I intend to do that soon. Thanks for letting me know.

School street sing in Austria

[edit]

Hi EthanL13, I saw that you did some work in the past on Austrian traffic signs. We have a new feature in Austrian traffic law, the "School street", where you can find the sign here (rather at the end, #26a). Unfortunately this official source has a quite bad quality, maybe you can find a better one. I guess my photograph of a real sign does not help much either :-/. Still, maybe you can create a usable SVG version? Thanks in advance --Reinhard Müller (talk) 16:00, 20 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Reinhard Müller ✓ Done File:Hinweiszeichen 26a.svg. EthanL13 | talk 18:00, 20 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Wow, you rock! Thank you very much!! --Reinhard Müller (talk) 18:09, 20 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

DVSP font?

[edit]

Hi Ethan,

I've noticed you edited the https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Denmark_road_sign_E55.svg and I just wanted to ask where you found the DVSP font? I'd like to learn Inkscape and vector graphics and was trying to make a sign for Brønde in Orø. Opspin (talk) 10:49, 13 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Opspin. The font was once available on the Danish Road Directorate's website, which is where I downloaded it from. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be available there anymore. EthanL13 | talk 12:25, 13 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Rename requests Criterion #4

[edit]

I'm declining these requests. Criterion #4 is for harmonizing file names not renaming nearly every file. Com:CFD is for renaming whole categories of files. This has been discussed at Com:AN with admins waying in on CFD/consensus rather than arbitrary mass renames. Geoffroi 20:54, 9 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

I've posted about this at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard#Mass rename requests with Criterion #4. This is about criterion #4, and not you personally. I would be happy to do these mass renames if the community is ok with them via discussion/consensus. Geoffroi 21:13, 9 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Geoffroi Perhaps I should have rather chosen criterion 2. However, I chose 4 as it would bring the file names in line with those named in all other categories, which also had ambiguous names (the sign numbers) but were renamed 11 years ago. I therefore expected it to not be a controversial change or one needing prior discussion. EthanL13[please ping me] 21:25, 9 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Last time I saw a mass rename request it first involved about 50 election map SVG files which then became 500+ files in half an hour. Before declining your earlier requests, I looked at the French roadsign categories and found very little by way of harmony (I just wanted to check how a big country's roadsign sets looked).

Are you looking at doing this on more than Iceland roadsigns? If there's something that can be done for harmonizing sets of roadsign files, wouldn't it be better to find a name format that the community agrees on and a way of doing mass renames without clogging the rename request category? As I say above though, I would have no issue with doing hundreds or even thousands of renames if others are ok with it. I posted on the Village Pump for filemover feedback as well. Geoffroi 21:45, 9 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Geoffroi Which categories did you look at? For all diagrams of road signs, their naming usually follows either "[country name] road sign [sign number]" or "[ISO 3166 country code] road sign [sign number]". The Icelandic ones I requested to rename did not follow this set standard. As they were the only ones, I don't intend on doing any more.
I did not believe there was a way to request a mass rename, and so if there is a way to mass rename files, I would like to know for the future. EthanL13[please ping me] 21:54, 9 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
I looked at the corresponding roadsign category for France. A lot of small sets, rather than one general name scheme. The concern voiced by Nakonana of breaking sets and making it harder for users on other wikis to find files seems valid as well. If another user wants to have a seperate small set of files with a different name scheme, there's no policy that would stop them, within reason. Geoffroi 22:48, 9 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Traffic sign in Qatar.

[edit]

Hello, my name is มองโกเลีย๔๔ .Thank you in advance for your efforts in installing the traffic signs for the State of Qatar. But actually, I will do it, but I'm currently responsible for the traffic sign work in the UAE, Kuwait, and the remaining old signs in Saudi Arabia, which don't yet use the 602 signs in Saudi Arabia. Regarding the Transport font that I accidentally overtook, the font style was jagged and unattractive, and I wanted a better, more user-friendly font. I apologize for overwriting it. Anyway, please get the Qatar part done, and as for me, I've cleared up the remaining three countries I mentioned above. Thank you and goodbye. Mongolia44 09:56, 27 February 2026 (UTC)

Hi @มองโกเลีย๔๔, that's no problem at all. I understand that the glyphs in those Transport font alphabets are not perfect, but they are the "official" ones, and differ slightly from the Transport font you use, which is why I reverted it. As for Qatari road signs, I just uploaded a few while I had the time, I don't have much time at the moment but hopefully when I do I can help out more. Bulgaria road signs before WW2

[edit]

Hi, is there any information about road signs in Bulgaria before WW2? ~2026-26822-14 (talk) 16:25, 3 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

I'm trying to find this information on my own, but without success. ~2026-26822-14 (talk) 16:32, 3 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi @~2026-26822-14, I'm afraid I have no information or resources for such signs. EthanL13[please ping me] 16:56, 3 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
